The Australian sheep industry, both its prime lamb and wool operations, is founded on a search for excellence and continual improvement.

As an important forum attended by the ‘best of the best’ in both categories, THE SHEEP SHOW is a barometer for the success of individual breeders and for the industry as a whole.

Champion genetics first seen at THE SHEEP SHOW become mainstream within a few years.

The Australian Sheep Breeders’ Association recognises the vital importance of ensuring THE SHEEP SHOW provides an exhibition of the finest genetic material available and is a show where the awards are seen as the premier awards in Australia.

The ASBA is passionate about building on its 133 year history of recognising excellence and dedicated to paving the way for our next generations of champion sheep breeders.

Wool Industry Development

• 133 generations of the industry’s wool producing champions have been recorded, prized and encouraged at THE SHEEP SHOW

 Prime Lamb Industry Development

• 133 generations of improvement in prime lambs have been recorded, prized and encouraged at THE SHEEP SHOW.

 Rural Communities Advancement

• Entirely through volunteer efforts, people who; love Woolcraft and fashion design; train sheepdogs for trials; compete in shearing competitions; and those who search for excellence in alpaca and goat breeding have been encouraged to shine at THE SHEEP SHOW.

Forging The "Future Of Farming" Pathway

• Seeing fourth generation SHEEP SHOW junior judges learning their craft makes us proud of our 133 year search for excellence. We would love to see another 133 more years.

Bridging The City/Country Divide

• Hundreds of thousands of city dwellers have attended THE SHEEP SHOW in Melbourne and Bendigo. There is no way to tell if getting up close and personal with the people and animals that feed and provide clothing has helped to bring awareness of how important sheep breeders are.
• However, we do believe THE SHEEP SHOW is one of the best remaining ways for the 8.2 out of 10 Australians living in cities to see what country people are all about.
