Join us in the champions' arenas as the Australian Sheep & Wool Show brings together some of the world's best breeders of prime lamb and wool genetics. With around 3000 sheep from five states on show and vying for the champion ribbons for each breed, this is the national benchmarking event to be at. Classes range from supreme prime lamb and supreme long wool, plus industry standard-setters such as the Merino National Pairs and the National Fleece competition, and we also welcome black and coloured sheep classes, as well as Angora goats, cashmere and mohair.

A sheep that does it all - commercial wool production and great meat characteristics - is this year's feature breed. The Corriedale evolved in both Australia and New Zealand from the 1870s by selective breeding using pure Merino and Lincoln sheep. With 125 years of selective breeding, today's Corriedale features heavy carcasses and bright fleece. Add to that the fact that lambing exceeds 100%, wool cut is 7kg and more a year - with a yield of 75% - and the animals have a long life span. See the best of the best at Bendigo.

National Fleece Competition

Benchmarking the best of the best and showcasing our finest fibre to the world, this major component of the show - organised by Landmark - attracts Australia's top commercial studs, as well as agricultural colleges and schools. It is no secret that there is a resurgence of passionate woolcrafters. This national competition attracts 300 exhibitors in 60 classes. The sharing of these skills not only inspires woolcrafters across the generations, but has seen an important showcase for design talent emerge. The winning designs - from stunning felted gowns and garments to highly contemporary wearable art - are featured in their own dedicated fashion parade at 11am each day of the show. Always a popular spectacle at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, this year's yard dogs competition will see them put through their paces over the three days. Under the expert guidance of The Victorian Yard Utility Farm Dog Association Inc, what you are watching in action are clever canines that perform an estimated $40,000 worth of effort throughout their working life, with a 5.2-fold return on investment for their owner. This year's event is sponsored by Eilan Donan Pty Ltd.

Then, on Day 2, you can see how the best shearers and wool handlers compete to keep our standards at the top; with the excitement of state championships staged on Day 3.

International breeders will join national stud experts and industry personnel at the dedicated Dohne Merino marquee. This a polled dual purpose sheep was bred in South Africa, but has grown in popularity in Australia since 1998.
